To apply to the EITM Doctoral School, you are required to upload the following documents.IMPORTANT: you need to submit a complete application package consisting of the following documents, in pdf and portrait format.*
– your PhD position contract with the partner university in its original language AND translated into English, including the institution name, the title of the PhD position and the duration of the contract. (If your university does not provide this service, the translation has to be done by an authorized translator and his/her credentials, signature and stamps must be visible in the translated document). – In case you are in the on-going enrolment process, a statement in English certifying that you have granted the PhD position, including the name of the institution, the title of the PhD position and the duration of the contract. The statement must be written by the PhD administration office (or equivalent department), confirming that you have passed the selections and you are in the process to be enrolled on that specific PhD position and giving your expected enrolment date.
– Short description of your PhD thesis subject – The relevance for the manufacturing sector – The innovation potential of the subject and expected research results – The entrepreneurship potential of the expected research results – A statement if the thesis is coupled with an industrial/research (not academic) organization or not, and if yes, the name and short description of such organization and contacts of the industrial supervisor (name and e-mail)

Overview
The EIT Manufacturing (EITM) Doctoral School offers a multiannual programme, which combines Industrial Doctorate studies in the field of manufacturing, done at its partner universities, with a wide range of I&E activities, such as summer and winter schools, seminars, hackathons and other innovative pedagogical approaches. Company visits and professional networking opportunities are also included into the EITM Doctoral School portfolio. International academic and industrial exchanges and a final industrial based thesis complete the programme.
The students can personalize their study plan choosing among the annual offering of the EITM Doctoral School. Students must complete the EITM Doctoral School programme within the timeframe of their PhD studies. At the end of the EITM Doctoral School programme, the PhD students receive the EIT label certificate, as the international recognition of their high education quality achievement. At the end of their PhD studies at partner universities, the EIT label certificate is recognized inside the student PhD diploma supplement.
Please note, to participate to the EITM Doctoral School programme students have first to be enrolled in a PhD position at one of the partner univerisities. Once enrolled in the PhD position, you can apply to join the EITM Doctoral School programme.

The EITM Doctoral School programme is free of charge. Students will be requested to pay not mandatory activities at a special rate.
Scholarships and mobility grants are available for specific sub-set of students, as well.
Programme structure
Doctoral School programme structure
The EITM Doctoral School requires the PhD student to complete:
- 30 ECTS of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) activities
- 15 ECTS of international mobility
- 15 ECTS of cross-sectorial mobility
I&E programme
The I&E programme is delivered every year with the following structure:
- Seminars(Doctoral School symposium) and Webinars series – I&E Basics (10 ECTS)
- Hackathons – Challenge-based I&E (4 ECTS)
- Summer and Winter Schools – I&E programme courses (7 ECTS)
- Visits to companies, clusters and incubators – I&E Labs for Business Development (2 ECTS)
- Venture Journey – I&E Bootcamp (7 ECTS)
The student has to attend at minimum (mandatory activities):
- either a summer or winter school
- the Doctoral School symposium, with either a poster or oral presentation
- 2-3 seminars about innovation and entrepreneurship in the frame of Manufacturing.
In addition, the student can choose among the other activities to complete the 30 ECTS, but not a second summer/winter school and the Venture Journey (see financial approach here below for more details)
International mobility
The 15 ECTS of international mobility can be done both at academic and not academic level.
Cross-organizational mobility
For the students having an Industrial PhD position offered by a specific organization the 15 ECTS of cross-organizational mobility are mainly done at that organization site, while for students with their own entrepreneurial idea the cross-organizational mobility will be defined according to the student project.
Duration of the programme
The student can complete the programme along the duration of his/her PhD studies, with a minimum time of two (2) years.
Financial approach
The programme is offered with a freemium approach, meaning students which are admitted will not pay any tuition fee and will be entitled to the minimum number of Programme activities (Mandatory I&E courses) that will allow them to fulfil the above Doctoral School requirements, in order to obtain the EIT Label Certificate. The student will be allowed to participate to additional activities of the Programme (Elective I&E courses) under the payment of discounted fees, comparing to the general fee of the single activity.
The mandatory I&E activities include:
- either a summer or winter school
- the Doctoral School symposium
- 2-3 seminars about innovation and entrepreneurship in the frame of Manufacturing.
The elective I&E courses include:
- A second summer/winter school
- The VENTURE programme inside the annual offer
Degree and EIT Label Certificate
At the end of their studies the students receive a PhD degree by their own university and the EIT label certificate
